Panels & Triptychs
Steven Galvin LRPS, ARPS gave us a fascinating insight into his world of panels and triptychs last night. Originating way back in caves and churches, panels are nothing new, but for photographers, it is an important technique to learn for showing a body of work.
What works, what doesn’t? How to cut a singe image into three parts, where to cut it, what shape and orientation will it be? the ohesion of the panel, arranging a panel with stronger and weaker images. Does it flow or block the viewer’ eye? Is it impactful? all these questions were answered in great detail in the first half.
In the second half, Seven showed us his personal journey from his first LRPS advisory day to gaining his distinction and ended with his stunning and scucessful abstract panel of colourful images gaining him an ARPS.
We members now have lots of expert information and gudiance from Steve to help us on our way to creating our own panels and triptychs so I hope we’ll see some in this year’s competitions. The talk also enabled members some inside into what to look for in putting together entries for the Hewitt Cup. BC
