My mate Dave Dowding.
Dave was a very proud, independent man. A engineer also a very good wood turner.
Dave re-joined the photography club in about 2017, he was a former member way back. In those days it was 36 exposure film with a set ISO. Then you composed an image in the viewfinder. He mainly did slides and video.
Moving forward he eventually accepted digital photography.
Some of the courses he did were, ‘A Year With My Camera’ by Emma Davies. He enrolled in The School of Photography taking the Lightroom, Photoshop and Macro courses. His other interest was Moon Phases so he did Robert Harvey’s workshop on Astrophotography.
We would sit at the back of the club room and Dave would say when he saw an image he liked “I’ll have that on my wall at home” He never said that about any of mine. We use to swap equipment rather than go out and buy kit.
I finally persuaded him to put in some images in for a competition that was the Close up and Macro on the 11 March 2025. He said “I’m not quite there” I said “You’ve got to be in it to win it” So he did.
Unfortunately he never got to see it but I was able to report back to him. That was the last conversation we had about photography.
