Club trip to Exmoor
A group of 20members from the club went to Exmoor for a photography weekend and we based ourselves in Minehead. Most of the group met up on Thursday evening for a Pizza and Burger meal in the hotel and planned a visit to Dunster for sunrise, however the sun did not put in an appearance so we returned to the hotel for breakfast and to plan the day ahead. We split into smaller groups and explored the area visiting various locations on Exmoor including Watersmeet, Porlock Wier and Tarr Steps. Most of the group met in Porlock late afternoon for the short walk to Porlock marsh to photograph the dead trees on the saltmarsh on a high tide at sunset. However nature fooled us again and the tide was not as high as predicted so we we unable to get the images we hoped of the trees surrounded by the water. Saturday morning found half the group on Porlock Common for sunrise and the views towards Porlock Bay and Bossington Hill, before returning to the hotel for breakfast. We again split into smaller groups for visits to Horner Woods, Robbers Bridge and Valley of the Rocks. We enjoyed and Italian meal for out final night together before and early start on Sunday to try once again to capture the incoming tide at Porlock Marsh, expertly lead by Robert Harvey, this time the tide surpassed our expectations and we needed to retreat to higher ground before the water came over the tops or our boots!!. I think we all managed to keep our feet dry and returned for our final breakfast before heading home, with a few people making stops on the way including Kilve beach , to explore the rock formations and Ham Wall to see what birds are there. All in all it was a successful weekend and I look forward to seeing some of the images taken soon. CW
