Frank Collins - It all begins with an idea.
Favourite image - The Vestrahorn.
This was taken during the Iceland Adventure in February 2022. The Vestrahorn is a majestic coastal mountain on the south-east cost of Iceland about 20km east of Hofn. The foreground beach is black volcanic sand covered in hillocks and tufts of grass - and in the winter the added attraction of being snow covered. There are so many possible compositions to choose from - we had been there an hour and were just packing up to leave when the mountain was briefly caught in this shaft of late afternoon sunshine. Nothing however in the image can possibly convey how cold it was that afternoon and the utter brutality of the icy wind that we had to contend with while shooting.
This shot was taken about 45 minutes before sunset with my Canon 7DMk2 and my favourite Sigma 10-20mm zoom lens at 16mm, with bracketed exposure.
What do I never leave the house without - some sort of camera, even if its just my iPhone. You never know when a photo opportunity is going to arise - and the best camera to use is the one you have with you!
