The Emotional Landscape

Huw Alban gave us a brilliant talk last night on The Emotional Landscape. Huw explained that mood and emotion dictate how he approaches landscape photography being at one in the landscape, soaking up the atmosphere, finding a unique composition and telling a story. He considers himself an artist that uses photography as his medium viewing technical perfection in a tack sharp, grainless image as secondary capturing the detail you want, mood, thought, reactions and sentiment. If you cannot feel emotion on what you take how can you expect others to.

Hue uses different techniques and methods to create his images drawing increasingly on black and white to remove distractions that colour can some times bring. He uses the silver effect plugin during editing. Huw also uses slow shutter speeds for clouds and water to create mood and ICM to reduce clutter and unwanted detail and create just an impression of what he is seeing. Composition is important to enhance or create line and shape.

Huw showed us images from Kent to the Lake District, the latter being an area he is passionate about.

Thank you Hue for an informative talk more details can be found on his website. BC, PC.
